Rules & Regulations


Committee

The committee will consist of the following positions;

From this point Shrewsbury Strikers will be referred to as ‘The League’.


British Tenpin Bowling Association (B.T.B.A.)

The league will be B.T.B.A. sanctioned and will use the general bowling rules as set out by the B.T.B.A. visit www.btba.org.uk for more information. All participants are expected to be B.T.B.A. members by their 3rd week of play. Click here to find out more about BTBA membership.


League Schedule

The league will run for 22 rounds. The last round of the season will be followed by a number of fun weeks, determined to suit the bowl and leagues schedules. There will be a presentation night following this - details always published via The League's Facebook page.


Timing

Players are expected to arrive no later than 7:45pm, practice will commence at 8:00pm and Match play will commence at 8.05pm every week. 


Lanes 

The league is allocated lanes 1-12 whenever possible, but this may alter without prior warning. The Centre will where possible provide courtesy lanes adjacent to the League depending on lane availability.

The allocated league lanes will be dressed by the Centre prior to the League commencing practice bowling. The players’ area including the approaches will be in an acceptable state of preparation.


Bowling Fees

Bowling fees will be £12.00 per person, paid to the Treasurer no less than 10 minutes prior to commencement of practice bowling. Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the committee following a financial review at the end of each season.


League Format

The league will run both scratch and handicap competitions concurrently. Each night will consist of a 3 game series with bowlers placed in order of their series totals in both formats.

The scratch and handicap tables will be based on a bowlers best 12 week scores from a possible 22 weeks.


Scoring

A total of 30 points are available for a 1st place finish. Points will be awarded according to performance on the night with each placement awarded points as follows;

                        30 Points – 1st Place

                        29 Points – 2nd Place

                        28 Points – 3rd Place

                        ...

                        1 point – 30th Place

Players finishing 31st or lower will not receive any points.

Players will not score points in the league until they have a qualified average (9 games), new players to the league will score points from their third week onwards.


Handicaps

Individual handicaps will be calculated as 90% of the difference between a bowler’s average and 220. There will be no cap on handicaps. A players average at the end of one season will carry forward to the next season.

New players will be required to complete 3 weeks qualifying to establish an average and handicap before officially joining the league.

All players handicaps will be fixed for the first 9 games they play of each season before fluctuating according to their total season average.


Amendments

The constitution may only be amended by a majority vote by league members. Proposals for amendments should be forwarded in writing to the committee.


Protests

All protests must be made in writing to the League Secretary within 24 hours of the infraction occurring, where the matter will be examined by the committee. 


Trophies

All Trophies and Prizes will be awarded from a player’s handicap and scratch performance. The categories for the award of trophies and prizes will be decided by the committee. A player must have bowled at least 50% of the total number of scheduled matches to be eligible for a trophy/prize or cash alternative. Trophies and cash alternatives will be awarded from funds collected throughout the season. 

There will be awards for the following;

For any individual award category covering both scratch and handicapped scores (i.e. high game or series), a competitor may not receive both awards: the award for the scratch prize takes precedence. In the event of a tie for any award, the prize will be shared between the competitors concerned. 

Players must have completed 50% of the previous season to be eligible for the Most Improved Award. 

The committee reserves the right to present additional awards as they see fit.
